BOSTON, MASS. - Competing against 46 other teams in the New England area, the Dartmouth men's cross country team took the top spot on Saturday — even without six of its top seven runners participating — at the New England Championships. The Big Green finished with 138 points, just edging second-place finisher Boston University (140 points).
Senior Tom Robbins (Evanston, Ill.) took the top spot for the Big Green as he finished fifth overall with a time of 24:36. Peter Jankovsky (Stamford, Conn.) was the other Dartmouth runner to finish in the top 20 as he placed 16th (25:06).
The Big Green had three other runners place in the top 45 to earn the victory; Will Geoghegan (Brunswick, Maine) crossed the line 35th (25:29), Corey DeWitt (Ellsworth, Maine) finished 40th (25:33) and Dylan Summers (Wolfboro, N.H.) wrapped up the scoring in 42nd (25:34).
The team earned the victory despite the fact that six of the top seven Dartmouth runners did not compete. Dartmouth next competes at the NCAA Pre-meet on Saturday, Oct. 16.
