HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's hockey team begins a three-week stretch of ECAC Hockey road games as the Big Green travels to the North Country to take on Clarkson and St. Lawrence.
Dartmouth enters the weekend after having dropped its league opener to Rensselaer, 4-1 and earning an scoreless tie with Union on Nov. 5 and 6.
Against RPI, Jason Bourgea tied the game midway through the first period but the Engineers pulled ahead in the second and tacked on two more in the third to take the win.
A day later against Union, junior netminder James Mello earned his first start of the season as he backstopped the team with 37 saves to a scoreless tie with the Dutchmen. Kyle Reeds and Doug Jones led the Big Green in shooting with four shots apiece but it was not enough as it was just the third scoreless tie in school history.
Bourgea and Nick Walsh lead all players with three points as Bourgea has two goals and an assist and Walsh has three assists through four games played. A total of nine players have recorded points this season for the Big Green.
This weekend Dartmouth travels to the North Country to face Clarkson and St. Lawrence. The weekend begins on Friday at Clarkson's Cheel Arena. Last season Clarkson won the first matchup between the two, 3-2 before the two squads tied, 3-3 in the last weekend of the 2009-10. The Knights have won or tied three of the last five meetings. The Golden Knights are currently 4-3-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the ECAC through nine games. Last weekend Clarkson earned a single point on the road, skating to a 4-4 tie against Colgate. The next night against Cornell the Knights fell, 6-1 to the Big Red.
The weekend wraps up on Saturday at St. Lawrence against the Saints. Dartmouth won both meetings with SLU last season with a 3-2 win at home and a 3-2 win in Canton. St. Lawrence is 2-4-3 overall and 2-0-0 in the ECAC. Last weekend the Sains picked up two league wins with a 3-0 win over Cornell and a 4-1 victory over Colgate
Next week the Big Green continues on the road, traveling to Quinnipiac and Princeton.
