James Mello and Matt Lindblad Earn ECAC Hockey Weekly Awards

HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's hockey team picked up its first ECAC Hockey weekly award as James Mello was named the MLX Skates Goalie of the Week and Matt Lindblad as the rookie of the week. The Big Green earned sweeps over Clarkson and St. Lawrence last weekend with a 7-1 win over the Knights on Friday and a 6-1 victory over the Saints on Saturday.

Mello (Rehoboth, Mass.), a junior, started both games over the weekend and even though he gave up two goals he still recorded a .968 save percentage and a 1.00 goals against average. Against Clarkson he had was looking to extend his shutout streak to a career-first two games before the Golden Knights tallied its lone goal with less then 2:00 to play in the contest on Friday. The next night aginst St. Lawrence, he held the Saints scoreless until the 14th minute of the third period. He faced 61 shots in the two contests. For the season he's now 2-0-1 with a .065 GAA and a .980 save percentage.

Matt Lindblad

Lindblad (Winnetka, Ill.) had recorded just one goal on the season prior to last weekend but against Clarkson and St. Lawrence he notched five points. He helped the Big Green sweep the North Country for the first time in head coach Bob Gaudet's tenure. On Friday, his second power play goal of the season in the opening period against the Golden Knights was the first of seven Big Green goals on the night. He also picked up an assist on the third score of the game. Against SLU he had a career-high three assists while recording back-to-back double figure scoring nights.
