HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's hockey team will play one of its oldest rivals this weekend in a home-and-home series as the Big Green takes on Harvard, first in Cambridge on Friday and then in Hanover on Saturday. It will be the first time since 1986 the two teams will play games back-to-back.
The matchup on Saturday will also be one of two chances for fans to bring a new, unwrapped toy to Thompson Arena for the Big Green's annual Toy Drive for CHaD. The second game in which toys will be collected will be on Dec. 12 against Vermont.
Last weekend Dartmouth split its series with Quinnipiac and Princeton. Netminder James Mello (Rehoboth, Mass.) has backstopped Dartmouth since Nov. 6 as the junior is currently leading the nation in both goals against average (0.99) and save percentage (.968). He picked up his third win of the season last Saturday with a 3-2 victory over Princeton.
On Nov. 20, the Big Green had goals by Andrew Owsiak (Moose Jaw, Sask.), Dustin Walsh (Shannonville, Ont.) and Matt Lindblad (Winnetka, Ill.) to defeat the Tigers for the second time this season. The win helped Dartmouth salvage two points on the weekend as the Big Green had lost the night before to Quinnipiac. With seven league points, Dartmouth is currently tied for second with the Bobcats.
Lindblad leads the team in scoring with eight points and is the team leader with five assists and two power play goals. Walsh, Scott Fleming (Plainfield, Ont.) and Nick Walsh (Shannonville, Ont.) each have five points.
The Crimson, 2-4 on the season, is looking to right the ship and get back on the winning track. Harvard has dropped its last three games with losses coming at Clarkson, Princeton and Quinnipiac. Alex Killorn has the most goals on the squad with three and has four total points. Goalie Kyle Richter has been in net for all six Harvard games this season and has a .939 save percentage and a 2.06 GAA. The Crimson leads in the overall series, 124-54-8 and has won seven of the last 10 meetings.
Dartmouth will play one more game before the team takes time off for Christmas as the Big Green will matchup with Vermont on Dec. 12 in game that will be televised on ESPNU.
