Dartmouth hosted Yale at the Connecticut River on Saturday in the battle for the Durand Cup, and though Yale won three races, the varsity eight proved an absolute dead heat. Dartmouth led the way for the majority of the race but Yale surged back to catch up as the finish approached. Ultimately, both crews crossed the line in a time of 5:31.6 and video review has proved inconclusive in determining a winner.
That was not the only close race on Saturday, as Yale's freshman eight dealt a heartbreaker to the Big Green, winning in 5:43.9 to Dartmouth's time of 5:44.9. Yale also won the second novice eight in a time of 6:03.8 ahead of Dartmouth in 6:11.7.
The Bulldogs took both first and second in the second varsity eight race, winning in a time of 5:42.9, with Dartmouth third in 5:48.1.
Dartmouth continued its busy weekend when it traveled to Columbia for races on Sunday for the Subin Cup, racing in a slight tail wind off the port side in high tide at the Orchard Beach Lagoon.
This time the Big Green made sure to take home some hardware as the varsity eight won another tight race, finishing in 6:03.6 ahead of Columbia in 6:06.8. The Big Green novice eight took its chance to win a close race as well, defeating the Lions in a time of 6:33.3, just 2.4 seconds ahead of Columbia in 6:35.7.
Columbia did get a win in the second varsity eight, with yet another close race. The Lions won in a time of 6:16.5 ahead of the Big Green in 6:17.9.
Dartmouth is back in action at home for the third straight week next Saturday, hosting Cornell for the Baggaley Bowl.
