The Big Green (3-4) battled the Badgers all the way on the flat water of the Charles River today, but Wisconsin came up just a bit faster, finishing in 5:53.78 ahead of Dartmouth in 5:55.71. MIT was well behind the two-horse race in a time of 6:27.06. Dartmouth had an early surge in the race, but Wisconsin came back level by the 500 mark and was nearly a length up by the 1000 meter mark. The Big Green countered, however, and the crews battled throuhg the last 500, but the Badgers emerged about seven seats up to cross the line first.
"We learned a lot in our training this past week and in our racing today," said head coach Topher Bordeau. "We're looking forward to traning hard during the next two weeks to put our best race together at the Eastern Sprints."
Wisconsin raced Dartmouth in both the second varsity eight and novice eight races, with the Badgers getting the better in both.
The Badgers took the second varsity eight in a time of 5:58 with Dartmouth second in 6:09.2. Wisconsin took its lead through the first 400 meters and though the Big Green caught up for the final 1,000 meters, but did not catch the Badgers. The times posted may not be accurate, however, as the line flaf may not have gone up at the appropriate time.
Wisconsin also won the novice race in 6:07.12 and the Big Green finishing in 6:14.39.
Dartmouth will not race again until the Eastern Sprints on May 16 at Worcester, Mass.
