CAMDEN, N.J. - Dartmouth's women's crew had a solid day at the EAWRC Eastern Sprints, sending the varsity eight to a fourth place finish in the Grand Final and three boats to Petite Finals.
Dartmouth's varsity boat matched last season's finish in the Grand Final, taking fourth in a fast field, shaving seven seconds off its heat time (6:40.131) to finish in 6:33.654. It was essentially a battle for third, as the Big Green came in just behind Brown in 6:31.807 but ahead of Penn and Cornell. Yale and Princeton duked it out in a thriller, with the Bulldogs winning in 6:20.155, just 0.8 seconds ahead of the Tigers. Last season, a fourth place finish at Sprints was enough to get the varsity eight into the NCAA Championship Field, which will be held May 28-30.
The Big Green second varsity eight had the second best result of the day, taking second in its Petite Final race in 6:54.589 just behind Bucknell in 6:51.910. Dartmouth crossed the line ahead of Northeastern, Penn, George Washington and Boston University.
The third varsity eight finished fourth in the Petite Final in 7:22.873 ahead of Boston University and Syracuse. Penn ran away with the race in 7:08.139, followed by Radcliffe and Columbia. Lastly, the third varsity four boat took fifth in the Petite Final with a five-second improvement on its heat time, finishing in 7:47.339 ahead of Columbia. Navy won the race in 7:35.969.
