Throughout the fall term, Dartmouth women's lacrosse players will be
sending in updates from their travels around the globe. Team members
are currently studying, interning and volunteering abroad in a
variety of countries thanks to the flexibility provided by the
College's four-quarter Dartmouth-Plan system. Each student-athlete will provide at least one blog entry about her experiences.

Update 1 (Sept. 20)
Sept. 23:
Hello Again from South Africa!
Since arriving here in Cape Town, one of the best trips Parks, Goldberg and I have taken was to Cape Point, also known as the Cape of Good Hope, which is where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Indian Ocean. On the drive out there, we were also lucky enough to stop at Boulder Beach, a beach in Simon's Town, South Africa, which is home to a colony of African Penguins.
The penguins at Boulder Beach were very amusing to say the least. Parks got a great video of a group of them walking down the beach together on her camera, they were so funny looking! However, we were all surprised to learn that penguins make a very strange noise, it kind of sounds like a donkey. It was not very pleasant to say the least.
After spending the morning with the African penguins, we continued on our way to the tip of Africa. Although the views on the way to Boulder Beach had been incredible, as we got closer and closer to the Cape of Good Hope, the scenery was like nothing I had ever seen before. There were these huge mountains that fell off straight into the ocean, and the color of the water itself was bluer than blue.
When we finally arrived, we were greeted by a multitude of wild baboons that live in the area, and let me just say that these baboons were definitely not afraid of humans. I would equate them to squirrels in the US, but ten times more frightening.
They were walking around everywhere, and in the past they have been known to break into cars and steal people's backpacks in search of food. We did our best to maintain our distance at all costs.
The views of the point were amazing. The three of us were very touristy with our picture taking, but we couldn't help it. As we hiked up to the lighthouse on the top of the point, every couple of feet we would all stop to take more pictures. I probably have 100 pictures of the same view, but each time it just looked better than the time before, it was addicting!
Looking back now, I think that best part about the trip was being able to see such a different part of the world. At one point Parks, Goldberg and I were sitting on this bench with a 360 degree view of the point, both oceans, and South Africa.
We all couldn't get over how far away we were from everything that we are used to, it was a really cool experience.
