PRINCETON, N.J. - Dartmouth senior Shannie MacKenzie (Riverside, Conn.) has picked up Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week honors for her efforts in helping the #14 Big Green defeat #15 Princeton, 15-10, on Saturday.
The win moved Dartmouth's record to 9-3 overall, 5-1 in the Ivy League and set up a showdown between the Big Green and Harvard (9-4, 5-1 Ivy) this Friday night, with the winner taking home a share of the Ivy Championship with Penn.
MacKenzie played her usual stalwart defense, helping the Big Green hold the Tigers to just three first-half goals and withstanding a late rally in the second half. Personally, MacKenzie was responsible for marking Princeton's second-leading scorer, Jaci Gassaway, and she succeeded in holding her to only two goals and two shots for the entire game.
Personally, MacKenzie grabbed four ground balls and caused two turnovers including one with just over five minutes left that led to a critical late goal for Dartmouth.
MacKenzie and the Big Green host Harvard this Friday night at 7 p.m. on Scully-Fahey Field with the championship on the line.
