BIG GREEN TIDBITS
Let's Get it Started -- Dartmouth opens its 32nd season of women's soccer this weekend. The Big Green owns a 268-203-40 career record entering the 2011 campaign. The Big Green has played 511 games in 31 years of intercollegiate play.
For Starters -- The Big Green open the 2011 campaign with a road trip through the state of Texas. Dartmouth opens the season against Texas A&M and is looking for its third season-opening win in its last four openers. Dartmouth opens on the road for the first time since the 2007 season when they opened on the road against Texas A&M.
Welcome to Dartmouth Coach Wagner Romagnolo -- Head coach Theresa Wagner Romagnolo enters her first season with the Dartmouth women's soccer program. Wagner took her post in February and comes to the Big Green after serving as an assistant coach at Stanford. Wagner Romagnolo helped lead the Cardinal to three consecutive NCAA College Cup appearances. Before Stanford, Wagner spent five years as the top assistant at San Diego. A standout player at Washington, Wagner Romagnolo led the Huskies to three NCAA Tournament appearances in four seasons and led them to their first-ever Pac-10 Tournament title. Wagner Romagnolo also played professionally with the San Jose CyberRays of the WUSA. The CyberRays won the WUSA championship in 2001.
Road Warriors - The Big Green will be "road warriors" this season. Dartmouth will play 10 road games this season with only six home games at Burnham Field. This year's six home games mark the fewest home games in the last eight seasons and the 10 road games is the most since the 2009 season.
Big Green Beefs Up Non-Conference Slate - The Big Green will be taking on some of the top women's soccer teams in the country during the non-conference schedule. Dartmouth is set to take on four NCAA Tournament teams including Texas A&M (Sept. 2), Texas (Sept. 4), Boston College (Sept. 14) and Boston University (Oct. 19). Regional rival Boston College reached the College Cup in 2010. Additionally, Dartmouth will take on Penn, who also advanced to the NCAA Tournament, in Ivy League action.
Looking at Texas A&M -- Friday's meeting will be the second meeting between the Big Green and Texas A&M (1-3-0). The teams last met during the 2007 season when Dartmouth traveled to College Station for the season opener. The Aggies won the contest 2-0. The No. 11 Aggies enter Friday's game with a 1-3-0 record after falling to Florida and Tennessee at the Lady Vols Classic last weekend. Allie Bailey leads the offense with two goals this season while Jordan Day has backstopped the Aggies with 15 saves.
A Glance at Texas -- The Longhorns (3-1-0) will host Texas -San Antonio on Friday night before squaring off with Dartmouth on Sunday. Texas enters the weekend riding a three-game win streak with road wins at Houston and Georgia and a home win over Cal State Northridge. Kylie Doniak leads the Texas offense with nine points on four goals and one assist. Alexa Gaul is in net for the Longhorns and has made eight saves and has a 1.06 GAA. This will be the second meeting between the Big Green and Longhorns. Dartmouth won the first meeting 3-2 during the 1995 season in a game played in Hartford, Conn.
TV Time - Sunday's game with Texas on the Longhorn Network marks the lone TV appearance for the Big Green in the regular season. Dartmouth hasn't played on national television in the last eight seasons.
