The Dartmouth College women's soccer team (2-4-0) hits the road for a non-conference matchup with Colgate on Tuesday (Sept. 20) and opens Ivy League action on Sunday (Sept. 25) at Brown. Kickoff for Dartmouth's non-conference matchup with Colgate is set for 4 p.m. at Colgate Van Dorn Field. The Big Green's Ivy Opener at Brown is a scheduled 4 p.m. kickoff in Providence, R.I.
BIG GREEN TIDBITS
Burnham Pride - The Big Green pushed their home record to 2-0 at Burnham Field with a 1-0 win over Maine on Sunday (Sept. 18). The Big Green have four more home games on the 2011 schedule and are set for a non-conference matchup with UMass (Sept. 27) and will welcome Ivy League foes, Princeton (Oct. 1), Columbia (Oct. 22) and Cornell (Nov. 5).
Shutting Them Out - Dartmouth picked up its first shutout of the season in its 1-0 win over Maine on Sunday (Sept. 18). The Big Green has scored all of its goals this season in the friendly -confines of Burnham Field, two against regional rival Vermont and one against Maine.
Hogan Heads to the Net - Senior goalkeeper Colleen Hogan (Houston, Texas) saw her first action this season against Boston College (Sept. 14). Hogan, Dartmouth's starting goalkeeper, each of the last three seasons, played 14:10 minutes in the second half against the Eagles and earned her first start of the season against Maine. Hogan collected Dartmouth's first shutout of the season against the Black Bears
Moschitto with the Golden Boot - Sophomore midfielder Marina Moschitto (Andover, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season and her fifth career goal against Maine (Sept. 18). Moschitto entered the season as Dartmouth's top scorer from the 2010 season. She compiled a team-best 10 points on four goals and two assists last season.
Ivy Opener - Sunday's Brown game marks Dartmouth's Ivy League opener. The Big Green have a 6-2 record in season openers over the last eight seasons and is looking for its third consecutive league-opening win. Ironically, Dartmouth has opened the Ivy League slate with Brown in each of the last four seasons, including this season.
Homecoming for Coach Kuss - Tuesday's game will mark a homecoming of sorts for Dartmouth assistant coach Kelly Kuss. Kuss, a 2006 Colgate graduate, ranks eighth all time at Colgate in career points with 77 and fifth in assists with 23, starting 74 of 75 career games. She was named second team All-Patriot League in 2002, 2003 and 2004 and served as team captain in both 2005 and 2006. In 2004, Kuss led Colgate to the Patriot League regular season and tournament championships, earning Tournament MVP honors. The Raiders went on to upset #13 Arizona in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Back to NY - The Colgate game will also give several Big Green players a chance to play in their home state. Freshman goalkeeper Tatiana Saunders (Rye, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Kim Rose (Seaford, N.Y.) are both from the Empire State.
Captain My Captain - The Big Green have named three upperclassmen as captains for the 2011 season. Seniors Ally Dutton (Granite Bay, Calif.) and Erin Fleischli (San Mateo, Calif.) and junior Kim Rose (Seaford, N.Y.) will wear the captain's armband this season.
Looking at Colgate -- Tuesday's game marks the second consecutive season the Raiders and Big Green have met on the soccer field with the Raiders owning a 3-2 series advantage. Last season, Dartmouth dropped a 1-0 contest to the Raiders at the Dartmouth Nike Tournament. Prior to last season, Dartmouth and Colgate hadn't met since the 1999 season, a 3-0 Dartmouth win in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Freshman Jenna Raepple leads the Colgate offense with a team-best, nine points on four goals and one assist. Ashley Walsh leads the Raider defense and has a 4-3-0 record and sports a 1.57 goals against average to go with 37 saves on the season.
Scouting Brown- Brown will take on UMass on Thursday (Sept. 22) before hosting the Big Green in the Ivy League opener for both squads. The Brown Bears are sporting a 4-1-1 record and were undefeated in the first five games of the season before a 3-2 loss to Sacred Heart on Sunday (Sept. 18). Kiersten Berg, who has a team-best, eight points on three goals and two assists leads the Brown offense. MC Barrett has played 290 minutes in goal and sports a 4-1-1 record and an 0.93 goals against average. Dartmouth has a 17-16-1 record against Brown and has won seven of the last eight matchups between the teams. Brown is currently ranked No. 10 in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic regional rankings.
