BIG GREEN TIDBITS
Home Sweet Home - The Big Green return to the friendly confines of Burnham Field on Thursday (Sept. 8) when they take on Vermont. Dartmouth is looking for its seventh home-opening win in the last nine home openers. The Big Green dropped their home opener last season to Colgate but prior to that had won six consecutive games to open the home slate.
Ranked Foe on Tap - When Dartmouth travels to Rutgers on Sunday, they will be taking on a ranked opponent. Rutgers is currently ranked No. 6 in the NSCAA Northeast regional poll.
Collegiate Debuts - Five Big Green women's soccer players made their collegiate debuts last weekend. Tatiana Saunders (Rye, N.Y.), Tasha Wilkins (Portland, Ore.), Laura Thurber (Belmont, Mass.), Amanda Flugstad-Clarke (Morristown, N.J.) and Kate Castillo (Danville, Calif.) each saw action in their first collegiate games. Saunders and Wilkins started their collegiate debuts against Texas A&M while Castillo earned her first career start against Texas. Thurber and Flugstad-Clarke saw action as reserves.
Homecoming - Sunday's game against Rutgers marks a homecoming of sorts for Big Green freshman Amanda Flugstad-Clarke (Morristown, N.J.). Flugstad-Clarke hails from Morristown, N.J., which is a mere 18 miles from Piscataway, N.J. where Rutgers is located.
Captain My Captain - The Big Green have named three upperclassmen as captains for the 2011 season. Seniors Ally Dutton (Granite Bay, Calif.) and Erin Fleischli (San Mateo, Calif.) and junior Kim Rose (Seaford, N.Y.) will wear the captain's armband this season.
Looking at Vermont -- Thursday's meeting between Dartmouth and Vermont (2-2-1) marks the 27th overall meeting between the regional foes with the last meeting coming during the 2009 season. The Big Green won that contest, 3-0. The Big Green hasn't dropped a game to the Catamounts since 1990 and is undefeated in the last 14 meetings between the teams. Vermont is led by three players that have each recorded one goal while Sara Leiby has a 2-1-1 record and has made 25 saves on the season.
A Glance at Rutgers - Rutgers (3-2-0) will take on another Ivy League opponent in Yale on Friday night before hosting the Big Green on Sunday. The Scarlet Knights return home after a weekend trip to California, which saw them upset Loyola Marymount, 2-1, in overtime and drop a 1-0 contest to UCLA. Rutgers, which will open a three-game homestand against Yale, is led by Jonelle Filigino who has nine points with four goals and one assist. Emmy Simpkins is backstopping the Scarlet Knights and has a 0.78 goals against average and has made 25 saves. This will be the first meeting between Dartmouth and Rutgers.
