PRINCETON, N.J. – The Dartmouth volleyball team dropped its final road match of the 2014 campaign, falling to Princeton by scores of 25-18, 25-19, 28-26 on Saturday evening. The Big Green dipped to 13-10 and 4-8 in Ivy League action, while the Tigers are now 13-9 and 8-4 in conference play.

“We made far too many unforced errors tonight to be in the match,” head coach Erin Lindsey said. “When we were in system, our offense looked good, but we could not sustain any positive runs. This is a huge disadvantage to have to overcome, but I was proud of how the team fought back in the third set. Emily Patrick came in and helped bring the level of play up.”

Princeton scored three straight points to start the match, but two Tiger errors allowed the Green to close the gap. With Dartmouth trailing, 19-12, a kill by senior Alex Schoenberger and freshman Sara Lindquist lessened that lead slightly before Princeton went on a three-point rally. Two kills by Lindquist and one by fellow freshman Morgan Dressel were the last Dartmouth points scored before a kill on the other side of the net ended the set in a Princeton victory.

What started off as a close second set with a handful of ties turned to one in favor of the home team when the Tigers scored nine unanswered points. A kill apiece by Schoenberger and sophomore Emily Astarita, and two Princeton errors took the score to 23-19 before Princeton scored the two points it needed to claim its second win.

The third set was a lot closer than the first two. Princeton won the first point and had a 3-1 edge when the Green went on a six-point rally off a Tiger error, and a kill by junior Kaira Lujan, two by Patrick and one by Lindquist. Dartmouth held on to that lead until eight Princeton points were scored in quick succession, giving the lead back to the home team. The Big Green, once again, turned things around with five consecutive points (22-21) to keep the score incredibly close.

An Astarita kill and an error on the other side of the net gave the Upper Valley squad a 25-24 advantage, but a Princeton kill tied things up at 25. Astarita had one more kill to give Dartmouth a 26-25 lead, but Princeton came back to score three points, just enough to be able to end the set.

Caridi led both teams with 12 kills, while sophomore Stacey Benton recorded 17 assists and junior Kayden Cook was close behind with 16. Sophomore Molly Kornfeind led the Big Green with 13 digs.

Next weekend, Dartmouth will host its final matches of the season. On Friday, Nov. 14, Cornell will come to town for a 7 p.m. match and, on Saturday, the Big Green will host Columbia at 5 p.m. Seniors Holly Harper, Maura Manley, Lucia Pohlman and Schoenberger will be honored at Senior Night on Saturday.
