SATURDAY'S GAME
The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team is back in action Saturday at Brown for its first Ivy League road game of the season. The Big Green and Bears square off at noon from Stevenson Field in Providence.
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth dropped a 12-10 contest Wednesday at Vermont's Virtue Field in Burlington. The setback marked the first time in the 27 all-time meetings that the Catamounts were able to best the Green in consecutive seasons after also winning last year's game in Hanover (16-15, 2OT). A disallowed free-position goal halfway through the second frame — which would have given Dartmouth the lead — proved to be the difference as the home team seized momentum and went on to earn the two-goal win.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Brown comes into the game as the most surprising team in the entire Ivy League thus far in 2014. The Bears began the season 7-0 before suffering a 9-8 loss at Denver on Monday afternoon for their first defeat of the spring. Having never qualified in the past three seasons, Brown is seeking to reach the Ivy League tournament for the first time and currently sits in first place in the conference standings at 2-0. The team's 13.50 goals-per game rank second among the Ancient Eight programs, while no team averages more than the Bears' 18.75 points per contest. Danielle Mastro's 14 assists and 31 points are both team highs with Bre Hudgins' 24 goals the most by any Bears players.
ALL-TIME AGAINST BROWN
These two teams have played every year since 1976 with Saturday marking the 42nd all-time meeting (Dartmouth, 29-11-1). Additionally, the two met twice in a season three times before in 1977, 1978 and 1989. The Green and White have won the last five meetings and 15-of-the-last-16 dating back to 1998. In last season's contest in Hanover, Sarah Byrne scored the game-winning goal with 13.8 seconds left in regulation to give the home team a thrilling 8-7 victory.
FOUR GOALS
Against the Catamounts, sophomore Jaclyn Leto and senior Liz Calby each netted four goals. For Leto, it marked the second straight game in which she managed four tallies after also scoring a quartet against Columbia last Saturday. Calby's first of the day was the 80th of her career, while the final goal gives her 120 points in 54 collegiate games.
FIVE ASSISTS
Sophomore Danielle Lisovicz registered five assists Wednesday in Burlington. The five helpers were not only the first five of her career, but also are the most in a single-game in the last three years by any Dartmouth player. No one else on the current roster boasts a five-assist game as the mark is just two shy of the program record.
MIDDLE OF THE ROAD
The Big Green will play its second of three straight road games on Saturday. Following the tilt with the Bears, Dartmouth will take on Cornell in Ithaca on Saturday April 5. The team will also finish out the 2014 season with two road contests at Princeton (April 19) and Harvard (April 25).
