HANOVER, N.H. – The Marjorie and Herbert Chase '30 Head Coach of women's Track and Field Sandy Ford-Centonze has announced the group of 17 incoming student-athletes who will make up the Dartmouth women's cross country and track & field Class of 2018.
This incoming group of student-athletes set to join the Big Green this fall comes from eight states as well as two from Canadian provinces.
Some of the highlights of the this freshman class are as follows:
On the distance side, first-year head coach of women's cross country Courtney Jaworski will see six new faces join a team that is coming off the 2013 Ivy League title. Expected to make an immediate impact is Ellie Gonzalez after she finished 12th at the Nike High School Cross Country Nationals last fall. She was also the runner-up in the Penn Relays High School Mile this past spring and boasts an impressive PR of 4:47.26 in the event.
Two California runners who had outstanding high school careers are also making their way across the country to Hanover. Leigh Moffett was fifth at the Division I California State Cross Country Championship in 2013 and has broken the 10-minute barrier in the 3200m, running a 9:58.78. Ashley Helbig was close behind Leigh at the state cross country meet as she finished 12th. On the track, she has posted a 4:48.25 in the 1600m.
Marissa Evans joins Ford-Centonze's sprint-hurdle crew. At the New Jersey meet for non-public schools, Evans won three individual events and two relay titles. Her best event is the 400m hurdles, a race she ran a 1:01.26 to finish sixth at the New Balance Nationals. She has also shown her speed with a 24.70 for the 200m during her high school career.
In the middle-distance events, Abbey Livingston excelled at the 600m. Her best time of 1:34.87 ranked sixth nationally in the event as a senior. She is also a very talented cross country runner and should prove to be a valuable relay performer.
Leading the new jumpers will be multi-eventer Allison Frantz. During the indoor season of 2013-14, she placed third at the New Balance Indoor Nationals with a score of 3,583 in the pentathlon. During the outdoor season, she posted a 4,752-point performance in the heptathlon. Frantz's best individual event is the high jump, where she has cleared 5-9.00. On the throws side, Megan Mounts is the Maryland State Champion in the shot put, setting a new PR of 40-8.75 in the process.
