HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women's soccer head coach Ron Rainey has tabbed seniors Kendall Kraus and Laura Thurber co-captains for the 2014 season. The duo is Rainey's first set of captains during his tenure, which begins on Sept. 5 against Portland at the Husky/Nike Invitational at the University of Washington.
“Laura and Kendall bring a very positive attitude to training every day,” said Rainey. “We are excited to see them develop into leaders for the Big Green this fall.”
In 29 career games for the Big Green, Kraus has scored twice with one assist for five points. As a junior, the San Diego native made seven starts, but did not record a point. In her freshman campaign, Kraus saw action in three games. In 2012 the midfielder had her best offensive season scoring all five points. Both of her tallies as a sophomore were game-winning goals against South Florida and Boston University.
Thurber returns to the Big Green lineup after missing last season due to an injury. In her first two seasons in Hanover, the Belmont, Massachusetts's product took the field in 17 games with nine starts. The defender did not record a goal, but was part of the 2012 Big Green backline that allowed just 12 goals on the season while allowing just 9.6 shots per game and finishing with seven shutouts on the year.
Kraus and Thurber will be responsible for developing the Big Green's nine-player freshman class.
The captains will make their home debut against Albany on Sept. 10 and will be a part of the Class of 2015 Senior Day presentation on Nov. 1 against Harvard.
