PRINCETON, N.J. — For the second year in a row, the Dartmouth women's basketball team was selected to finish sixth in the 2015-16 Ivy League preseason poll, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Last season the Big Green finished with a record of 14-14, and a conference mark of 5-9. It was the first time Dartmouth won more than six games since the 2010-11 season. Head coach Belle Koclanes, who is entering her third season with the Green, is poised for her team to improve upon that record and capture their 18th Ivy League Championship.
Defending conference champion, Princeton was ranked first in the poll after receiving 16 first place votes. The Tigers are also ranked No. 25 in the country in the USA Today Preseason Coaches Poll. Penn was tabbed for second in the Ancient Eight with one first place vote, while Harvard, Yale and Cornell rounded out the top five. Behind Dartmouth is Brown in seventh place and Columbia in eighth.
The Big Green return two key players on offense, junior Fanni Szabo and senior Lakin Roland. Szabo led her team, averaging 16.3 points a game and will look to build upon last year's offensive production. Roland, not far behind her teammate, averaged 12 points a game and led Dartmouth with an average of eight boards a game.
The Green return nine players from last season and feature four newcomers to Hanover this year. Dartmouth opens the regular season on the road at Drexel on Friday, Nov. 13 for the opening round of the Preseason WNIT Tournament. The Big Green will play New Hampshire on Monday, Nov. 16 for the home opener at 7 p.m.
