HANOVER, N.H. – The No. 47 Dartmouth men's tennis team, fresh off its second place finish at the ECAC tournament last weekend in Boston, defeated Binghamton, 6-1, on Friday night at the Boss Tennis Center.
"I saw things that were already better in tonight's match than they were in our last match four days ago," head coach Chris Drake said. "We took a step forward as a team in this match and we will look to do the same in our next one."
The Big Green began the match by winning the doubles point. Junior Brendan Tannenbaum and sophomore Max Schmidt got the first win of the night, 6-1, over the number one team from Binghamton. Just a few minutes later, sophomore Diego Pedraza and senior Sam Todd clinched the doubles point for Dartmouth with a 6-1 victory at number three doubles.
Pedraza then put the Green and White up 2-0 by virtue of his 6-2, 6-2 win in singles. Schmidt quickly made the score 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory of his own. Todd delivered the clinching blow to Binghamton with his 6-3, 6-3 triumph.
Freshmen Max Fliegner and Ciro Riccardi also picked up wins for Dartmouth in the defeat of the Bearcats.
With the victory, Dartmouth improves to 6-4 on the season. The Big Green tennis team hits the road next week to square off against the University of Michigan and Michigan State.
