CALGARY, Alberta – Three current Dartmouth players were among the 43 names announced as invitees to Canada's National Women's Development Team selection camp on Wednesday afternoon.
Rising-senior Laura Stacey, junior Emma Korbs and sophomore Hailey Noronha were all named to the camp which is set to take place in Calgary, Aug. 6-16.
The camp – part of Hockey Canada's National Teams' Summer Showcase – is hosted at the Markin MacPhail Centre at WinSport's Canada Olympic Park, and will see the 43 invitees vying for spots on the 23-player squad that will travel to Lake Placid, New York, for a three-game series against the United States' Women's Under-22 Select Team Aug. 19-22.
The 43 players attending Canada's National Women's Development Team selection camp will be split into two teams, Blue and Gold, which will participate in several practices and intrasquad games, as well as off-ice dryland training, fitness testing, and high-performance classroom sessions. Intrasquad games are free and open to the public.
Noronha is on the Blue Team, while Stacey and Korbs will play for the Gold Team.
For Stacey — a native of Kleinburg, Ontario — playing for her country has become a regular occurrence as she is one of 11 players selected who won a gold medal with Canada's National Women's Development Team at the 2015 Nations Cup in Füssen, Germany.
Like Stacey, Noronha has also represented her country before. The Newmarket, Ontario, native suited up for Canada in 2014, helping to win the IIHF U18 World Championship in Budapest, Hungary.
Korbs — a native of Toronto — has previous experience with Team Canada as she was invited for U18 tryouts twice before making the team that played the US in a late-August series between the two archrivals in 2012. However, Korbs was not part of the world championship roster later that year and has not participated in Hockey Canada activities until this past May when she was invited to Developmental Team Conditioning Camp.
Following the series with the Americans, Hockey Canada scouts, along with the team's coaching staff, will continue to evaluate players with their club teams during the 2015-16 season, in preparation for selecting the Canadian team that will compete at the 2016 Nations Cup in Germany next January, as well as possible invites to camps and events with Canada's National Women's Team.
