HANOVER, N.H. – The seventh-ranked Dartmouth men's squash team defeated No. 9 Drexel 6-3, in its last home match of the month on Saturday at the Berry Squash Courts.
The victory improves the Big Green to 6-2, while the Dragons fall to 7-4.
Dartmouth got off to a quick start thanks in part to 3-0 victories by the Big Green's two seniors Kyle Martino and James Fisch.
Meanwhile freshman Matthew Giegerich kept the momentum going for Dartmouth, winning in four games after dropping the third to his opponent. Freshman Carson Spahr faced a tough opponent losing in straight games. Junior Glen Brickman and sophomore Brian Giegerich both took down their respective opponents 3-0 to clinch the overall match victory for the Big Green.
For his third outing in a row, sophomore Alvin Heumann kept his winning streak alive with a hard fought 3-2 victory. Last week Heumann won his first two matches of the year, dispensing his Princeton and Penn opponents in straight games. Heumann played another fantastic match this weekend against Drexel.
After sharing the first two games Heumann won the following frame to take a 2-1 lead. His opponent won the fourth which set up an exciting fifth round where Heumann got the better of his competition.
Freshman Sam Epley gave a good performance before falling 3-1, as junior Nick Harrington was swept in three games.
Dartmouth returns to the court on Saturday, Feb. 6 when the Big Green travel to Cornell.
