Dartmouth Takes Down Cornell on the Road 5-4

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Dartmouth men's squash team continued its winning ways defeating Cornell, 5-4 on the road in Ithaca on Saturday afternoon.

The victory improves the Big Green to 7-2 overall, while the Big Red fall to 3-7.

Dartmouth got off to a slow start as junior Andrew Field was defeated in three games and junior Glen Brickman fell 3-2, after coming back to tie his match at two games a piece. Freshman Sam Epley lost 3-2 after leading 2-1 to give Cornell an early 3-0 overall lead in the match.

In the second round of matches, junior Nick Harrington got the Big Green to bounce back with a 3-1 victory. Sophomore Brian Giegerich and Freshman Carson Spahr each won 3-2, after Giegerich had to come back from a 2-1 deficit.

Dartmouth needed to take two of the final three matches in order to tally the overall win. Senior James Fisch lost in straight games as freshman Matthew Giegerich displayed determination to win his match 3-1 and keep the Big Green's hopes alive.

In the deciding match, sophomore Alvin Heumann was down 2-1, but he improved his pace and went on to win the next two games to secure the overall victory for Dartmouth.

The Big Green return to the court on Sunday to take on Columbia.
