Men's Tennis
vs Dartmouth Invite #1

HANOVER, N.H. – It all came down to senior Brendan Tannenbaum at No. 3 singles to decide who would be the winner of the No. 42 Dartmouth/No. 32 Tulane matchup. After three hard-fought sets, the Big Green walked away with its second upset of the weekend with their 4-3 defeat of the Green Wave.
Dartmouth improved to 5-1 on the season and Tulane dipped to 4-2.
“Our team made a statement this weekend,” head coach Chris Drake said. “To beat teams that are as solid and well-coached as Tulane and Drake, especially when it comes down to a last-match-on-the-court situation on consecutive days, you have to play with conviction and belief. I thought we did that this weekend.
“It is difficult to get wins against good teams, and when you fall behind 1-0 after the doubles point, it becomes extremely tough. I am very proud of this group of guys for being able to do that twice this weekend against two really good teams.”
Tulane took the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and 3 positions. At No. 2, junior Max Schmidt and freshman Roko Glasnovic defeated Alex and Ian Van Cott, 6-2, but the Green would enter singles play trailing by one.
Junior George Wall made it an even match with his 6-1, 6-0 win over Chi-Shan Jao at No. 5 singles, but a Green Wave win at No. 2 gave the lead back to the visitors. That victory, however, was followed up by two more Green wins to make it 3-1 for Dartmouth. Sophomore Max Fliegner took down No. 111 Sebastian Rey, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 4 and Schmidt had a 7-5, 6-2 defeat of Tyler Schick at the No. 6 position, leaving just Tannenbaum and Alex Van Cott at the No. 3 singles.
Van Cott took the first set, 7-5, but Tannenbaum got the second, 6-3, to send the match to the deciding third set. He took the lead and ran with it, defeating the Tulane player, 6-2, in the final set.
On Friday, Feb. 5, Dartmouth will play its first road match of 2016, heading to North Carolina State.
