LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth dropped a 1-0 contest Friday night at Vermont's Gutterson Fieldhouse in front of 4,007 listed fans on hand to see Martin St. Louis's No. 8 raised to the rafters. Despite a season-high 39 shots on goal, the Green were unable to solve UVM goalie Packy Munson as he turned in the shutout.
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS
The Crusaders are currently one of the hottest teams in the nation and are on a nine-game unbeaten streak (8-0-1) following a 2-0 win at AIC on Tuesday night. The run took a team two-games under .500 and that began the season with four straight losses to its current overall record of 12-6-1. Not included in that unbeaten figure was a 5-2 exhibition win against McGill on Dec. 30. Junior Mike Barrett leads the team in both goals (10) and points (18), while Jake Bolton's 14 assists are more than any other Holy Cross player.
AGAINST THE CRUSADERS
Though separated by just over two hours of driving, Dartmouth and Holy Cross have only played one another eight previous times with the Green and White holding the 4-3-1 edge. The last time these two teams met was a Dec. 30, 2011 Ledyard Classic game in which the home team came away with a 3-2 triumph.
A TON OF DRAWS
Friday's game featured 72 faceoffs in a contest that never had a feel of sustained back-and-forth flow. Of those 72 faceoffs, Dartmouth won 38 and remains one of the top teams in the nation at this dot this season. The Green trail only Union in terms of success rate on draws, winning 55.8% to the Dutchmen's 57.5%.
STANDING TALL
Senior Charles Grant stopped 24 at Gutterson and allowed just the one goal. His 0.67 GAA in the month of January ranks fourth in the nation among goalies with at least two games played, while his .969 save percentage in that time also ranks fifth in the country.
NON-CONFERENCE GAMES GONE
Sunday marks the final non-ECAC Hockey game of the regular season for the Big Green. After starting the year with six conference games, six of the last eight have come against non-conference foes. As it stands now, Dartmouth is 2-3-1 in those matchups with both of the wins coming in the Ledyard Classic and the tie at Michigan in the second of a two-game trip to Ann Arbor.
LOST FOR THE GAME
Top-line center and the team's leading scorer Nick Bligh left the game at UVM midway through his first shift of the night in the opening minutes of the contest and did not return.
SHUTOUT
The loss at UVM marked the fourth time this season the Big Green had been held without a goal.
WHAT'S AHEAD?
The Big Green remain home this coming weekend with a pair of ECAC Hockey games against Clarkson and No. 13 St. Lawrence at Thompson Arena on Jan. 15-16 with both set for 7:05 p.m. puck drops.
