HANOVER, N.H. – In its first match of 2016, the seventh ranked Dartmouth men's squash team defeated No. 11 Princeton, 8-1 for the first time since the Ivy League started play in 1956-57.
The victory improves the Big Green to 5-1 while the Tigers drop to 2-5.
For Dartmouth, its historic season continues after the Big Green took down Harvard, 5-4 on Dec.1 for the first time in nearly 70 years.
Dartmouth quickly jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after freshman, Sam Epley, sophomore Brian Giegerich and senior Kyle Martino swept their opponents in three straight games.
Freshman Carson Spahr won a close first game before losing in the second. He then finished strong, taking the third and fourth games of the match. Meanwhile junior Nick Harrington got off to a slow start, but he shut down his opponent to seal the victory for the Big Green.
With Dartmouth ahead 5-0, James Fisch battled hard in a back-and-forth match before finally winning the fourth game on a tie breaker and the fifth game 11-7 to close out his match.
Freshman Matthew Giegerich and sophomore Alvin Heumann each recorded a victory before Glen Brickman fell in his match in four games.
The Big Green return to the squash court tomorrow to take on Penn at home at 12:00 p.m.
