CALGARY, Alberta – Former Dartmouth women's hockey captain Laura Stacey '16 is one of 24 players looking to bring home gold for Canada's National Women's Team at the upcoming 2016 4 Nations Cup in Vierumäki, Finland, from Nov. 1-5.
The roster includes three goaltenders, seven defensemen and 14 forwards that were chosen following Canada's National Women's Team Fall Festival in Calgary last month.
In its 21st year, the 4 Nations Cup brings together the top-four women's hockey countries in the world: Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States. Canada will first play an exhibition game against Finland (Oct. 30) before opening the tournament against Finland two days later (Nov. 1). Canada will also face Sweden (Nov. 2) and the United States (Nov. 4) in preliminary-round action, while the bronze- and gold-medal games will be played the following day.
“This is a proven group of players that have all represented Canada on the international stage,” said Laura Schuler, Dartmouth head coach as well as head coach of Canada's National Women's Team. “This event marks another opportunity for our players to show us they have what it takes to wear the Maple Leaf, and we are looking forward to hitting the ice in Finland as we look to reclaim gold.
Stacey will be making her 4 Nations debut. Last season, she helped the National Women's Development team claim the Nations Cup, tallying a goal against Austria and an assist versus the Czech Republic. Most recently, she was selected third overall in the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) Draft by the Brampton Thunder.
Since the debut of the 4 Nations Cup in 1996, Canada's National Women's Team has won the gold medal a total of 14 times – the last of which being in 2014 – and earned silver on six occasions, including last year.
