BOSTON – Dartmouth's Amy Patton was named the first head coach of the United Women's Lacrosse League's (UWLX) Boston-based franchise last week.
The first professional women's lacrosse league in the world will feature four teams from Boston, Long Island, Philadelphia and Baltimore.
Patton is one of four current collegiate head coaches to join the league for its inaugural season, joining Hofstra's Shannon Smith (Long Island), Loyola's Jen Adams (Baltimore) and Penn State's Missy Doherty (Philadelphia).
“I am thrilled to be involved with the start of this League,” Patton said to UnitedWLAX.com. “The caliber of play will be outstanding for both the teams competing and the fans to watch. Spectators and especially young girls will have the opportunity to watch wonderful role models perform at an elite level.
“From a coaching perspective, this is ground breaking, and I am passionate and enthusiastic about being one of the coaches to work with such great leaders and talent. I am excited for such a great opportunity,” Patton added.
The league is based out of Boston and will run from late May through July. The 2016 schedule kicks off on Saturday, May 28 during the US Lacrosse National Tournament at Lehigh University and the nearby NCAA Final Four weekend taking place in Philadelphia that same weekend.
