HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women's hockey was picked to finish 10th in the 2015-16 ECAC Hockey Preseason Women's Coaches poll, which was released by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Quinnipiac sits atop the poll, receiving six-of-12 first-place votes. Sitting behind the Bobcats is Clarkson with four first-place votes, Princeton (2), Colgate and Harvard.
During her teleconference with the league media, first-year head coach Laura Schuler gave insight into how the team is preparing for the season: “This year is all about taking the time to know the players and see what they're capable of bringing to the table. We're hoping to continue the scoring trend with Kennedy Ottenbreit, Eleni Tebano on defense and excellent goaltending from Robyn Chemago.”
Last season, Dartmouth was 10th in the conference standings with a record of 6-18-3.
In addition to all 16 returnees, six freshmen will make up the remainder of the roster as Bailee Brekke, Rose Falzone, Sydney Hill, Sabrina Huett, Cecilia Lopez, Sara López-Wheeler and Christina Rombaut make their Dartmouth debuts this season.
The team also has a completely different look behind the bench following the addition of three new coaches. Schuler is in her first season at the helm of the program after spending 2015-16 as head coach of the Canadian National Women's Hockey Team, a role she will reprise this season. She is assisted by Chris Cobb, who comes to Dartmouth from Union and Courtney Sheary, who spent five years coaching hockey at the Cushing Academy and was a former UNH standout.
Dartmouth will open the season the same way it has done for the past nine years; with an exhibition game against McGill. The Green and the Martlets will take to Thompson Arena on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 3 p.m. Dartmouth will officially open the season a week later, hosting Northeastern at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21.
