LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Thanks to a five-goal effort from senior Courtney Weisse and four goals from sophomore Elizabeth Mastrio, the Dartmouth women's lacrosse team defeated Siena, 16-6, Wednesday afternoon.
In the first ever game between the two programs, the Big Green (5-3) snapped their three-game skid with the 10-goal victory at the expense of the Saints (1-8) at Siena Turf Field.
In all, nine Dartmouth players found the back of the net in the non-conference win. In addition to the nine-combined goals from Weisse and Mastrio, the visitors got a tally from seven different players with Kathryn Giroux, Ellie Carson, Katie Bourque and Sophia Turchetta scoring a goal and registering an assist in the game.
Larson Bennett did that quartet one better with a goal and two assists.
The most telling stat of the day and perhaps the season was the visiting team's 21-2 domination of draw controls. The Green had a 12-0 edge in the stat by intermission and then added nine more in 11 chances in the second half.
That domination was anchored by a record-setting performance from Giroux, who finished with 12 draw controls and broke her own program record of 10 set in the opening game of the season at UMass Lowell.
The dozen draws is also the eighth most in a single game during the 2017 campaign of any Division I player.
Siena was led by a hat trick from Alexis Deaken and a pair of scores from Briana Sirianni.
Sophomore Charlotte Wahle started and played all 60 minutes in the Big Green cage, making eight saves in earning her first win of the season.
The Big Green held a 38-23 edge in shots and a 22-15 advantage in ground balls.
Dartmouth is back in action Saturday at home in Hanover as its plays hosts to Ivy League rival Harvard at 1 p.m. at Scully-Fahey Field. Check back with DartmouthSports.com for any scheduling updates regarding weather conditions.
