The Big Green won the main event going away by 17 seconds

HADLEY, Mass. – The Dartmouth women's rowing team got the 2018-19 season started by competing at the second annual Hadley Chase, hosted by UMass, on the Connecticut River on a rainy Saturday. The Big Green's had entries in three of the races with the Varsity 8+ claiming the gold and three of the top six spots.

Dartmouth began the day by taking the top six spots in the 2s. Dartmouth's A boat of Carter Nelson and Sophie Stone led the way (18:21.6) and was followed by the B duo of Rhea Enzian and Cameron Thibault (18:33.5). The E boat of Sophie Kostanecki and Ellie Urdang crossed the tape in 18:38.9 to place third followed by the D crew (18:45.8), the C boat (18:48.1) and the F duo (19:21.8).

In the Varsity 4+, the Big Green's A crew of Allie Kent, Natalie Knight, Sophie Kamhi, and Grace Hannam (17:25.2) finished in second place, seven seconds behind Marist. Dartmouth B and C crews crossed the finish consecutively in eighth (17:51.8) and ninth (17:54.6), respectively.

In the afternoon, the Dartmouth A boat wrapped up the Varsity 8+ race in 15:46.3, a full 17 seconds ahead of second-place Marist. The B boat was narrowly missed out on a top-three time, a mere tenth of a second (16:08.2) behind UConn. Wrapping up the Big Green entries was the C crew in sixth (16:21.6) out of the 25-boat field.

Next up for Dartmouth will be the Head of the Charles next Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 20-21.
