ALBANY, N.Y. – Two members of the Dartmouth men's hockey team were honored with weekly league awards as announced by the ECAC Hockey office Monday afternoon.
Â
Junior
Shane Sellar was named the Player of the Week, while
Drew O'Connor was tabbed as the Rookie of the Week for their strong performances against Harvard in the season-opening 7-6 overtime win on Saturday night.
Â
Sellar posted a three-point night in the win, scoring the team's first goal of the game on the power play and then at the 3:40 mark of the third period to give Dartmouth the 5-4 lead. His biggest play of the evening, though, was his first assist of the season as he picked up the puck inside the Harvard blueline after a takeaway and fired a centering feed across the low slot to linemate
Quin Foreman for the winner just 18 seconds into the overtime period.
Â
For O'Connor, his first collegiate game could not have gone any better. Like Sellar, the freshman also recorded a three-point effort in the win as he dished out a pair of assists and had his first collegiate goal during a second-period breakaway. His first career point came on an assist of
Will Graber's power-play goal with his second assist coming in the third period on a
Clay Han point shot. His breakaway goal on a great breakout pass from classmate
Harrison Markell with 7:11 remaining in the second period made it a 4-3 game heading into the third period and set up for the wild third that followed.
Â
For Sellar, this was his second time winning ECAC Hockey Player of the Week after also being recognized last Feb. 13 after a six-point night (2-4-6) at RPI.
Â
Sellar, O'Connor and the rest of the Big Green are back at home this week for ECAC Hockey games against No. 19 Princeton and No. 15 Quinnipiac.
