HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women's lacrosse head coach
Danielle Spencer has been named a member of the US Lacrosse Greater Rochester Hall of Fame Induction Class of 2018.
Â
Spencer will be honored alongside four other individuals and two teams at the Nov. 2 ceremony in Pittsford, New York.
Â
"It's incredible to think about how lacrosse has influenced the course of my life, and given me my best friendships and memories, since first picking up a stick in the eighth grade," Spencer remarked. "I am forever grateful to coach Richard Curtis at Brighton High School who introduced me to the sport and convinced me to play."
Â
Spencer earned the distinction after a stellar collegiate career at Northwestern from 2007 to 2010 that has been followed by coaching stints at Stanford (2011) and her alma mater (2012-16) before coming to Hanover in 2017. In addition to coaching, Spencer remains an active player, suiting up for the United Women's Lacrosse League (UWLX). This fall, she was one of 27 players named to the U.S. Women's National Team roster for the 2018 Team USA Fall Classic.
Â
It was as a player with the Wildcats where Spencer made her biggest mark on the game. Spencer and her teammates reached the national title game in each of her four seasons in Chicago, winning three (2007, 2008, 2009). A two-time All-American, she was recognized with a spot on the first team as a senior.
Â
Over the course of those four years, the Brighton, New York, native played in 83 games, making 65 starts with the powerhouse Wildcats. Her career totals rank among the best in Northwestern's storied history as she finished with 193 goals (7th), 238 points (8th) and 203 draw controls (3rd). The 110 draw controls as a senior was the third-most by a collegiate player in NCAA history at the time.
Â
At Dartmouth, Spencer guided the Big Green back to national prominence. This past spring — in just her second year at the helm of the program — she led her team to a national ranking and back to the Ivy League Tournament, both accomplishments that had not been done in Hanover since 2013.
