29 regular season games are on tap for the upcoming year
HANOVER, N.H. – Koenig Family Head Coach Bob Gaudet '81 has announced the 2018-19 schedule for the Dartmouth men's hockey team.
The usual mix of 22 ECAC Hockey games and seven non-conference contests litter the calendar from late October to early March for next year's Big Green, with a preseason contest against the US National Team Development Program slated to get things started on Oct. 22.
HIGHLIGHTS:
• Dartmouth will open the regular season with three straight home games against conference foes Harvard (Oct. 27), 2018 ECAC Hockey Tournament Champion Princeton (Nov. 2) and Quinnipiac (Nov. 3).
• A four-game homestand at Thompson Arena features Vermont (Nov. 24), last year's regular season champion and NCAA Tournament participant Cornell (Nov. 30), Colgate (Dec. 1) and in-state rival New Hampshire (Dec. 7).
• The Big Green will actually play a home-and-home series with UNH with the home game on Friday, Dec. 7, before heading to Durham the following night, marking the first time ever that the two Granite State teams will play such a series. It marks the first time since the 1982-83 season that Dartmouth and New Hampshire will play two times in one year after they played a pair of games in December that year.
• The Green and White close out the first half of the year with a Saturday evening road game at Boston University (Dec. 14), the team's first trip to Agganis Arena since 2013-14.
• The 30th Ledyard Classic will take place at Thompson on Dec. 29-30 and features some familiar foes. Dartmouth will open against Army West Point (Dec. 29), while a Battle for Rhode Island between Brown and Providence will open the tournament. Dartmouth and Providence (Dec. 30) will play in the second game of the second day following the Brown/Army game. The teams will look to dupplicate the success of last year's champion Minnesota Duluth, who carried that momentum all the way to the Frozen Four and a national title in St. Paul.
• The 2019 portion of the schedule kicks off with Dartmouth's first-ever visit to Bentley (Jan. 5) and it's brand-new arena that opened near the end of last year.
• The Class of 2019 will be honored on Senior Day, which will be held following the home game against Brown on Feb. 23.
• The Green close out the regular season on the road at Union (March 1) and Rensselaer (March 2) before the ECAC Hockey Championship postseason kicks off the following weekend at the campus sites of the teams seeded fifth through eighth.
