LEBANON, N.H. – Members of the Dartmouth men's hockey team visited the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (CHaD) Tuesday afternoon to take part in a new playground opening on the grounds.
Â
With the rising-juniors on campus for the summer, eight players from the Class of 2020 made their way to the Lebanon campus for the afternoon.
Â
The players were on hand as the newly installed playground was made available to the kids for the first time. They participated in games of wiffleball, played on the swing sets and helped hand out buckets of donated toys to the hospital's youngest patients.
Â
"We had a great time at CHaD," forward
Cam Strong said. "We always look forward to our visit in December following the annual toy drive, but this was something new that the team had never done before so it was a nice addition to our summer."
Â
Players also signed pucks and talked to the kids about the upcoming season, including answering many questions about what games they should attend with their families.
Â
"We're usually there (CHaD) in the winter and we play games with some kids in the hall or maybe video games in their rooms,"
Shane Sellar remarked. "This was different, but still a ton of fun because we got outside in the sun and were able to run around.
Â
"It can't be fun for kids to be in the hospital during the holidays so our visit following the toy drive is good to go and lift spirits. It also can't be fun for kids to be there in the summer time when they should be outside playing," Sellar added. "Being able to help correct that, even for just a couple of hours or so, made today's visit special too."
