HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's cross country team will take to the Van Cortlandt Park 6K Course Friday morning alongside seven other Ancient Eight programs at the 2019 Ivy League Heptagonal Championship.
Â
The Big Green have six Ivy titles to their credit, tied for third most in league history behind only Princeton (9) and Harvard (7).
Â
At last season's meet at West Windsor Fields in Princeton, the women ran to a second-place finish in cold and wet conditions, posting 86 points along the way. Only Columbia was ahead of Dartmouth in the standings en route to the second straight title for the Lions.
Â
Georgia Fear (17th, 21:13.1),
Olivia Lantz (18th, 21:14.8),
Julia Stevenson (19th, 21:16.0) and
Lauren Sapone (20th, 21.17.7) ran together and maintained the team's 2018 identity that culminated in another second-place finish for the Green and White after also finishing as the runner-up in 2017.
Â
Injuries have taken a toll on the Green and White in 2019, but that does little to stop their preparation for Friday's championship race or to dampen their expectations of another strong showing. Despite setbacks, Dartmouth won the Maribel Sanchez Souther Invitational in early September and was second at the New England Championship meet earlier in October.
Â
Leone Timing will provide live, updating results throughout the race.
Â
An awards ceremony will follow the conclusion of the men's 8K race around the 1 o'clock hour. First-team honors goes to the runners who finish first through seventh, while second team goes to the runners who finish eighth through 14th.Â
