HITTING THE ROAD
Dartmouth hits the road for the first time this season when it makes the trip to the southwest corner of Connecticut to take on Fairfield on Sunday. The Big Green are looking to remain perfect in the early going of the season, while the Stags are playing their first home game of the year.
SURVIVING THE WARRIORS
- The Big Green had their, 52-32, fourth-quarter lead erased to two points with 1:07 left and hung on to defeat Merrimack, 57-52.
- Merrimack came into the game averaging 73.5 ppg and Dartmouth's defense held them to 16 points below its lowest total this year.
- Denia Davis-Stewart entered the game averaging 28 ppg, 14.5 rpg and 8.5 bpg and was limited to 13 points, 13 rebounds and one block.
- Three Big Green players were in double figures with others having big nights as well.
- Annie McKenna led the team with 14 points and added five assists and four rebounds.
- Anna Luce finished with 12 points, four rebounds and two assists.
- Paula Lenart was close to a double-double with 10 points on 4-5 shooting and eight boards.
- Elle Louie did everything with nine points, 11 rebounds, and career highs with six assists and four blocks.
- Asha Taylor provided a spark off the bench with eight points, including five in the second quarter and six rebounds.
CHIPPING IN
- The five members of the team mentioned above combined for 53 of the 57-points Wednesday night.
- Not going unnoticed was Kealy Brown, who scored her first basket of the year and added five rebounds, two steals and an assist.
- With Lenart in foul trouble, Veronica Kelly brought much-needed depth at the forward position, playing 12 minutes and grabbing four rebounds with two points.
- Every healthy member of the Big Green saw action Wednesday night.
DEBUTS
- Jimena Abejon and Georgia Alexander made their season debuts, while Karina Mitchell made her career debut for Dartmouth against Merrimack.
- On the first play that she was in the game, Mitchell came away with a blocked shot.
- It was the first time that every healthy member of the Big Green saw action since Dec. 31, 2018 against Binghamton.
PLAYING TOUGH
- Through the first two games of the season, Dartmouth's defense is allowing just 53.5 ppg, which is fourth in the Ivy League.
- The Big Green are holding opponents to .312 shooting, which is third in the conference.
- Dartmouth is also outrebounding teams by 8.5, which will be key throughout the year.
- The Big Green are tied for the Ivy League lead with 4.5 blocks per game and has nine total on the season.
NOT SO JUNIOR
- Elle Louie was all over the court Wednesday night, finishing with nine points, 11 rebounds, six assists and four blocked shots.
- Louie set career highs in both assists and blocks.
- She was one rebound shy of her career high.
- She picks up her third-career game with five or more assists and eight game of five or more rebounds.
- Louie leads the conference with four blocks and is fourth with 8.5 rebounds per game.
- Anna Luce has scored in double figures in each game this season, finishing with 12 on Wednesday.
- Luce is sixth in the Ivy League in scoring with 16 ppg.
- She is also fourth with a .652 field goal percentage.
SCOUTING FAIRFIELD
- Through its first three games Fairfield is 1-3 but is coming off its first win on a last-second game winner.
- The Stags lost their first two games to good competition, falling to Temple, 77-59, and Seton Hall, 74-44, before beating Long Island, 53-51.
- Fairfield is averaging 52.0 ppg and is allowing 67.3 ppg, which is fourth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
- Lou Lopez-Senechal leads the Stags with 11.0 ppg, while pulling down 4.0 rpg.
- Callie Cavanaugh is the only other player in double figures with 10.3 ppg.
- Rachel Hakes scores 8.3 ppg and leads the team with 5.6 apg, while Katie Armstrong averages 8.0 ppg and 4.0 rpg.
- Sam Kramer leads the team with 4.7 rpg, while scoring 6.7 ppg.
- Sunday marks the home opener for Fairfield. They were 5-7 on their home court last season.
FAIRFIELD'S LAST TIME OUT
- The Stags secured their first win of the season, 53-51, at LIU on Wednesday.
- Lou Lopez-Senechal hit a jumper with 0.4 seconds remaining to give Fairfield the victory.
- The Stags trailed, 50-42, with 6:30 left in regulation before going on a 9-0 run to go ahead 51-50 with 2:17 to go before the eventual winner.
- Cavanaugh led the Stags with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Kramer had 13 and seven boards and Lopez-Senechal had 13 points as well.
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE STAGS
- This will be just the third meeting between Dartmouth and Fairfield.
- The Big Green are 2-0 in the series.
- Dartmouth beat the Stags, 68-63, on the road in 2004 and defeated them last season at Leede Arena, 59-46.
- In last year's meeting, Isalys Quinones led the Big Green with 18 points and Elle Louie had 10.
