Big Green End Dual Meets With Loss to Columbia

HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's swimming and diving team fell to Columbia, 182-115, at Karl Michael Pool on Friday evening.

The meet was highlighted by Justin Sodokoff breaking the pool record on the 1-meter diving board that had held since 2007.

Dartmouth started the meet by placing third and fourth in the 200-yard medley relay with times of 1:35.65 and 1:36.72. Connor LaMastra was second in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:35.06), touching 13 seconds ahead of a Lion in third place. A few events later, he won the 200-yard fly (1:50.41), while Zach Browne was third (1:53.14) and Robert Purvis came in fifth (2:02.62). LaMastra also won the 500-yard freestyle (4:31.86), while Joe Moll placed second (4:35.87).

In the 200-yard freestyle, Moll won with a time of 1:41.26, out-finishing Zachary Pear by just over half a second. Carter Jacobsen earned a point with his fifth-place finish (1:45.46). Moll was also second in the 200-yard IM (1:53.58). Luke Rohlen and John Hall touched two one-hundredths of a second apart in the 50 free to take fourth and fifth with times of 21.85 and 21.87.

Dartmouth's divers earned 13 points on 1-meter. Sodokoff picked up nine by taking first (357.82), Ray Neistat took third (299.62) and AJ Krok placed fifth (283.50). Sodokoff was back on 3-meter, taking first again (376.05), while Neistat was third (297.83) and Krok took fifth (267.05).

JP Mortenson and Matt Luciano touched three-tenths of a second apart in the 100-yard backstroke, taking fourth and fifth with times of 54.28 and 54.56, while Parker Hershberger swam the 100-yard breaststroke and came in third place (59.45). Brandon Liao followed in fifth (59.69).

In the 100-yard freestyle, Henry Patrick came in third place (47.70), while Hall was fifth (48.01). Matt Degtyar and Mortenson touched three-tenths of a second apart in the 100-yard fly with times of 52.11 and 52.43 to take second and third, while Luciano placed fifth (53.34).

Swimming in the 200-yard backstroke, Jacobsen placed third (2:00.66) and was followed by Dylan Chan in fourth (2:01.79). In the 200-yard breaststroke, Paul Cane was second (2:11.42), out-touching a Columbia swimmer by two-tenths. Max Jones and Connor Richmond were fourth (2:11.76) and fifth (2:13.37).

The Big Green came in second and third place in the 200-yard freestyle relay with times of 1:26.22 and 1:28.02.

Dartmouth is done with dual meets and will have over three weeks until the Ivy League Championship, which will take place at Brown from Feb. 27 through March 2.
