HANOVER, N.H. –Head coach
Laura Schuler has announced the 2018-19 Dartmouth women's hockey team awards.
Tess Bracken was named Offensive MVP, after having shared the award last season. In her second year as a forward, she concluded her career first on the team in goals and points and tied for third in assists. Bracken netted three power play markers and scored the game winner against Vermont in November.
Quote from Coach Schuler: "Tess is an incredibly gifted player who always puts our team first, playing whatever role was asked of her. She began her career on defense and later transitioned to forward for us. Her passion and love for the game has inspired so many of her teammates to want to be better. Tess did a lot of the little things incredibly well and because of that, was a constant offensive threat for our team."
The Defensive MVP award was given to
Caroline Shaunessy. In 29 games, the Big Green senior had a game winning assist in the 3-2 overtime win against Quinnipiac. She was tied for second on the team with 35 blocked shots.
Quote from Coach Schuler: "Caroline has been such an integral part of this year's leadership group and has helped raise the overall level of excellence in many aspects for this program. Her strength, passion for the game and commitment to our team standards have truly left this program in a better place."
Kate Landers received The Sarah Kennedy Award, which is given to a junior or senior who has demonstrated selflessness in putting team above individual goals, a dedication to their team and school with their actions on and off the ice, perseverance in the face of adversity, and a sincere love for the sport.
Quote from Coach Schuler: "Kate's incredible work ethic, attention to detail, genuine personality and team-first attitude has had a tremendous impact on our program. Her energy and passion for the game played a critical role in helping our team unite and move in a positive forward direction."
Both of the Big Green's senior netminders were recognized.
Shannon Ropp was named the Unsung Hero for the second year in a row. She played in five games throughout the 2018-19 season, making 56 saves while allowing nine goals for a .862 save percentage and 3.68 goals against average.
Quote from Coach Schuler: "Shannon's unwavering work ethic, positivity and genuine support of her teammates was the glue that bound this team together. She was a great teammate who led with her heart and inspired all those around her."
Christine Honor was named Team MVP for the second consecutive season. In 26 games, she made 715 saves while allowing 67 goals for a .914 save percentage and 2.72 GAA. She was named All-Ivy Honorable Mention for the second time last week.
Quote from Coach Schuler: "Christie has been this team's backbone. Her commitment to excellence, positivity, her supportive attitude and her calm, confidant demeanor always kept us in games and gave us an opportunity to succeed."
Katerina Dajia was named Most Improved. In her sophomore season, she netted her first career goal against Princeton and also had an assist in the 4-2 win over Union and the 3-2 overtime victory against defending national champion Clarkson.
Quote from Coach Schuler: "Kat's confidence grew tremendously as she worked extremely hard to develop every aspect of her game. She was a force to be reckoned with, was strong and powerful, and played an incredibly big role for us in the defensive zone."
The Rookie of the Year award was given to
Gabby Billing. During her first year in Hanover, she was fifth on the team with nine points (3-6-9). She scored two of the team's three shorthanded tallies, becoming the first Dartmouth player to score multiple shorthanded goals in one weekend since 2002. All of her points came against conference opponents.
Quote from Coach Schuler: "Gabby is an extremely hard worker. She proved herself both on and off the ice every day and immediately earned the respect of her teammates. She is incredibly positive and supportive of others. She is a 200-foot player for us who consistently brings her best effort."
