CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Dartmouth women's rugby went 3-1 at the Ivy 7s Tournament on Saturday, defeating Princeton, Brown and Harvard before narrowly falling to the Crimson in the final.
For the second tournament in a row,
Ariana Ramsey led the Big Green, ending the day with 11 tries for 55 points.
Milla Anderson and
Emily Henrich had two each. Both
Kat Ramage and
Camille Johnson had five conversions each. Scoring their first collegiate tries were
Abigail Schill and, on the developmental side,
Yuri Oh and
Didi Niles.
"Both squads had moments of brilliance today and, despite a tough OT loss in the final, we headed home with heads held high," head coach
Katie Dowty said. "In our first match-up with Harvard, the team put together arguably the best performance of the tournament and played to the standard we are striving for for an entire 14 minutes. In the final, we had a couple lapses in ball security and defensive coverage that you simply cannot afford in a competitive 7s game. The OT loss stings, of course, because the team always leaves their heart on the pitch, but we will take it on the chin and use it to drive us moving forward.
"Our development side has had many individual and team breakthroughs over the past two tournaments that we are excited to build off as we turn our attention to laying the foundation of fall 15s for the rest of the spring," Dowty continued. "Meanwhile, our 7s squad has a few weeks to rest, recover and get back to work refining our game as we aim to play our best 7s of the spring at the USA Rugby Collegiate 7s National Championship in Tucson next month."
