HANOVER, N.H. – It was announced on Wednesday that Dartmouth junior goalkeeper
Kiera Vrindten has been named the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) National Defensive Player of the Week.
Â
Vrindten earned the accolade on the strength of her 14-save performance and win at No. 9 Penn last Saturday.
Â
This is not the first weekly accolade for Vrindten in the wake of Dartmouth's win in Philadelphia as she was also tabbed as the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in April on Monday.
Â
The 14 saves against the Quakers were a season high and sparked the Green and White's second-half comeback that led to the 15-11 victory. Several of Vrindten's saves eventually led to transition runs and goals at the other end, making her stops in the circle all the more important.
Â
Though not taken into consideration when picking the award, Vrindten earned another win Tuesday afternoon in Dartmouth's 22-6 win at Vermont in which she made five saves in 50 minutes of play.
Â
Vrindten and her teammates now turn their attention to the biggest game of the season on Saturday as Cornell comes to Hanover for the final contest of the season at Scully-Fahey Field. Both the Big Green and Big Red are 4-1 in Ivy League play with the winner pulling ahead to the top of the standings all alone. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
