Throughout the summer, DartmouthSports.com will be focusing on members of the Class of 2021 who are currently in their "Sophomore Summers" presented by Cape Air.
This installment focuses on
Brendan Demler of the men's hockey team. Demler came to Hanover from Lebanon, Ohio, after playing junior hockey in Iowa.
Â
DartmouthSports.com: What have you been doing during your sophomore summer?
Brendan Demler: During the summer, we have been trying to spend as much time outdoors as possible, whether it is going to the river, grilling out in the yard or playing golf. Not to speak poorly of the winter season, but this is one of the few times we actually get to enjoy the beauty of living here.Â
Â
DS: What was it in the recruiting process that sold you on Dartmouth?
BD: I actually came on my first visit here over the summer in 2014, was really blown away by the campus and committed that day. That being said, Dartmouth was also the first team where I felt the coaching staff really believed in me and was committed to my success. This summer has been ever more special thinking about how much has changed from the first time I came here back in high school.Â
Â
DS: If you could swap places with one teammate, who would it be and why?
BD: I would have to swap places with
Ryan Blankemeier because it would be nice to know what it feels like to complete all of your homework for the week in under an hour.
Â
DS: What has been your best on-field memory thus far in your Dartmouth career?
BD: Freshman year the series win over St. Lawrence in the first round of the ECAC playoffs was one I will always remember because of how hard-fought those three games were.
Â
DS: How is Hanover different or similar to where you grew up?
BD: My hometown is very similar to Hanover. We have a small downtown area that reminds me a great deal of main street here with a lot of local shops and restaurants, so I have always felt very comfortable.
Â
DS: What's the app you use most on your phone?
BD: I would say it is
Groupme right now. My teammates and friends probably hate me, but I am always one to light up the group chat and get some conversation going.Â
Â
DS: What show do you binge watch?
BD: I am currently watching an old HBO series called 'Rome.'
Â
DS: What is your useless/hidden talent?
BD: Last Winterim, I hosted a couple Fortnite Twitch streams that all of the guys could watch and comment on. I am an avid gamer, but after a poor turnout I decided to stop streaming.
Â
DS: What would be your best advice to your 15-year-old self?
BD: Spend more time stickhandling.
