HANOVER, N.H. – The 2019 season gets underway Saturday morning for the Dartmouth men's cross country team at the Maribel Sanchez Souther Invitational.
Â
The season-opening meet was renamed prior to the 2017 season in honor of the late Dartmouth coach who passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer in late 2016. This will be the third home meet named in her honor.
Â
The men's 8K race is set to begin on the Hanover Country Club course at 10:30 a.m. The women's 6K race will follow. Parking is available at the Ford Rugby Clubhouse lot.
Â
The Big Green have won this meet each of the last five years dating back to 2014, with a pair of perfect 15-point performances (2015 and 2018) and two 16-point showings (2016 and 2018).
Â
Patrick O'Brien won the meet last season with a 24:44.66 and looks to build on that again this year. In all, Dartmouth claimed the first four spots and the sixth to earn 16 points. The team used that early season momentum to a third-place finish at Ivy League Heps, led by All-Ivy League showings from
Owen Ritz (7th, 24:48.3) and Henrey Raymond (8th, 24:49.7). The Green and White would claim fourth two weeks later in Buffalo at the NCAA Northeast Regional.
Â
In addition to Dartmouth, Brown, Hartford and Maine will be competing.
