HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's hockey team will host three former NHL players and program alumni when it plays host to St. Lawrence Saturday night.
Â
Lee Stempniak '05, Ben Lovejoy '06 and Tanner Glass '07 will all be back in Hanover and at Thompson Arena for a special night honoring the trio who all announced their retirement from pro hockey following last season.
Â
The first 500 fans through the doors that night will receive a commemorative t-shirt (below) courtesy of The Richards Group. The three former Big Green skaters will be honored on the ice during the game and will also be on-hand to sign autographs after the game. In addition to the shirts, fans will also receive a commemorative poster (below).
The Big Green come into the weekend 8-5-3 overall and 5-3-1 in league play, taking on No. 7 Clarkson Friday night at Thompson. That game, like the SLU game on Saturday, is scheduled for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
Â
Stempniak stepped away from the game in early October after 14 seasons in the NHL. Dartmouth's all-time leader 911 NHL games in his career, his 203 career goals, 266 assists and 469 points are all program records at the NHL level as well.
Â
Lovejoy announced his departure from the NHL in August after 11 seasons, making his announcement in a guest analyst appearance on
NHL Tonight on the NHL Network. Third all-time in career games played by a Dartmouth alum with 544, he became the first New Hampshire native to win the Stanley Cup as a player, earning that distinction in 2016 with the Pittsburgh Penguins. In doing so, he became the first Dartmouth alum to win a Stanley Cup since Myles Lane did so with the Bruins in 1929.
Â
Glass made his announcement late last spring after finishing his career overseas. Like Stempniak, he is a former Dartmouth captain and 2003 NHL Entry Draft selection, a draft that is widely considered the best and deepest in league history. Third all-time in Dartmouth history, Glass played in 527 career games and recorded 658 PIMs, a number that ranks first in program history. He would reach the 2011 Stanley Cup Final as a member of the Vancouver Canucks before moving over to the Winnipeg Jets the following season where he played a career-high 78 games.
