Foye Named Senior CLASS Award Candidate

James Foye becomes the first Big Green men's basketball player to be chosen as a candidate
HANOVER, N.H. — Thirty NCAA men's basketball student-athletes who excel both on and off the hardwood were selected as candidates today for the 2020 Senior CLASS Award, and Dartmouth guard James Foye was among those chosen. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence — community, classroom, character and competition.
A native of Hamilton, Massachusetts, Foye has developed into a key starter for the Big Green during his four years on campus. Entering conference play, the 6-4, 195-pound guard is averaging 10.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and a team-best 2.1 assists per game while shooting 48.1 percent from the floor. He is one of the top 3-point shooters in the nation as well, hitting 48.5 percent from the perimeter (33-of-68) this season and over 41 percent for his career. Last year, Foye started all 30 games and provided 10.8 points a night while ranking second on the team in 3-pointers (54), assists (72) and steals (21), not to mention a 3.0 assist-to-turnover ratio.
A two-time captain for Dartmouth, Foye is an economics major with a 3.97 GPA and was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team last year as a junior. He also volunteers with the Upper Valley Haven After School program as well as at Hero fundraising events for the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD) while also visiting children at the hospital.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
In February, the 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists, who will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four C's of community, classroom, character and competition. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2020 NCAA Men's Final Four this spring.
Notes: Foye is the only Ivy League player among the 30 candidates … he is also the first Dartmouth student-athlete to be named a candidate for the men's basketball award since its inception in 2002.
