May 13, 2007 — Lightweight Rowing win the Eastern Sprints
Dartmouth lightweight rowing had shown flashes of brilliance throughout the 2007 season. Led by two-time Olympian Anthony Fahden, the Big Green defeated No. 1 Cornell earlier in the year, but were not expected to do much as the competition ramped up in the Eastern Sprints.
The Big Green finished third in the qualifying heat and were in lane six for the Grand Final with the slowest preliminary time of the six finalists.
Then, out of nowhere, Dartmouth won a thrilling race with a time of 5.38.894, edging the heavily favored Cornell (5.40.466) once again, along with Princeton, Navy, Harvard and Georgetown.
As the top finisher in the Ivy League, Dartmouth also took home the Michael W. Christman Trophy, which is given annually to the Ivy League champion.
