TORONTO – The National Hockey League's (NHL) first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs will get underway this week for 16 teams, including the Washington Capitals and
Reid Cashman, the Koenig Family Head Coach of Dartmouth Men's Hockey.
Â
An assistant with the Capitals, Cashman was on the bench for the team's 1-1-1 performance in the Round Robin portion of the Qualifying Round this week in the Eastern Conference's "bubble" at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.
Â
Washington fell in a shootout against Tampa Bay (3-2, OT/SO) in its opener, dropped a regulation game to the eventual top-seeded Flyers (3-1), before ending on a high note with a 2-1 win Sunday against Boston to earn the No. 3 seed.
Â
In claiming the third seed, the Caps will take on the Islanders, who defeated Florida, 3-1, in four games in the Qualifying Round.
Â
In addition to the Big Green's next head coach, Washington also has Dartmouth connections high in the front office as Dick Patrick — a graduate in the Class of 1968 —
is the Vice Chairman and Partner of Monumental Sports & Entertainment and Capitals Team President.
