HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth head coach of men's basketball
David McLaughlin today announced his four recruits for the Class of 2022 —
Izaiah Robinson,
Jaren Johnson,
Robert McRae III and
Dusan Neskovic.
"We are very excited about our incoming Dartmouth class of 2024," McLaughlin said. "These four young men will have a great impact within our program and the Dartmouth community. They all have a love and positive outlook for the game, bring a tremendous work ethic and share a true belief in what Dartmouth is all about. They are a very skilled group that will all be able to impact the game in multiple ways. We are very excited for their transition to campus!"
A 6-3, 190-pound guard from Montclair, New Jersey, Robinson regularly led Kent School (Conn.) in scoring during a post-graduate year last winter, averaging 25.2 points to lead the New England Preparatory School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC) Class A level. He added 5.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.3 steals per game while shooting 46 percent from the floor and 84 percent at the foul line to be named All-NEPSAC Class A. Robinson spent the previous two years at St. Mary of the Assumption, producing over 14 points, four rebounds and three assists a game for the 18-7 Hilltoppers as a senior captain, earning All-Union County First Team honors. During his junior year, he helped his squad to a 19-8 record and a Mountain Division championship.
"Izaiah's work ethic, combined with his skill set, provide him a great foundation as he enters our program," McLaughlin noted. "He is a talented competitor who brings athleticism, terrific range and an ability to score in a variety of ways. His ability to play on or off of the ball, along with his overall feel for the game, will help him compete right away."
Johnson, a 6-5, 180-pound guard from Lynwood, California, was a two-year captain and two-time San Gabriel Valley All-League First Team player for Lynwood High. In his senior campaign, he led the Knights to a conference title while being honored as the San Gabriel Valley League MVP. He was also included on the Long Beach Boys Basketball Dream Team First Team as he averaged 16.8 points and 6.5 rebounds a game. Johnson also played at Gahr High School as a sophomore and earned Hews Media Group All-Area First Team honors.
"Jaren is coming to us from the West Coast where he had a terrific high school career," McLaughlin stated. "Jaren brings many of the qualities we look for in our backcourt players. He has a terrific feel for the game, possesses great length and has the ability to stretch the defense. I am excited to watch his development as his body matures and he has the opportunity to compete on a daily basis."
Another California native, hailing from Inglewood, is McRae, a 6-3, 200-pound guard and graduate of Fairfax High before taking a post-graduate year at nearby Kimball Union Academy. Last winter, he earned All-NEPSAC Class AA honors for the Wildcats, captaining the squad to a final record of 20-8. Prior to heading to the East Coast, McRae was a three-time first-team All-LA City selection and three-time captain for the Lions. As a senior, he led Fairfax to the LA City Championship and a 27-2 record.
"Rob brings a winning mentality to Dartmouth," McLaughlin said. "His attitude, competitiveness and willingness to do what it takes to win will provide him an opportunity to have an impact when he steps onto campus. He can play and defend multiple positions, stretch the defense with his range and is a very willing passer."
Neskovic comes to Dartmouth by way of Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and played in the Bosnian national team program before taking a post-graduate year at The Hotchkiss School in Connecticut this past winter. The 6-7, 205-pound forward joined Robinson on the All-NEPSAC Class A Team, helping the Bearcats advance to the NEPSAC Class A title game while posting a 24-4 record. Before coming to the United Stats, Neskovic also played with BC Partizan and Igokea in Bosnia.
"Dusan's international experience, combined with his size and skill set, will allow for him to compete with our wings and forwards right away. He has great shooting ability, moves very well without the ball, is a willing passer and is not afraid to play with a level of physicality. I am looking forward to seeing him compete with our guys on a daily basis."
