Dartmouth Dominates vs. Mount St. Mary's over Homecoming Weekend

The women's rugby team downed the Mountaineers, 70-0, on a crisp Saturday at Brophy Field
HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women's rugby blanked Mount St. Mary's, 70-0, over Homecoming weekend at Brophy Field. This is only the fourth time in program history that the Big Green haven't allowed their opponent to score.
Eight players had a hand in the 10 tries, being led by Idia Ihensekhien and Asialeata Meni with two tries apiece. Lillian Johnson and Hannah Sheehy both scored their first collegiate tries in the second. Dartmouth didn't miss a single conversion, with Abbey Savin hitting six to lead the team with 12 points. Kristin Bitter had the other four.
"We are very proud of the teamwork out there today," head coach Katie Dowty said. "We love to see so many different players crossing the line. I was really impressed with the contributions off the bench, keeping up the pressure and not a llowing any points on defense."
Mount St. Mary's proved to be a tough competitor early in the first half, allowing one try by Bitter at 3:06 before keeping Dartmouth out of the try zone for almost 13 minutes. When Emily Henrich managed to break through at the 16-minute mark, she opened the door for tries by Ihensekhien (2), Lilly Durbin and Ale Ada all in less than 20 minutes. Savin hit all of her conversions, making it a 42-0 game at the half.
The Big Green started the second with back-to-back tries by Meni, and with two good kicks by Bitter, the home team saw their advantage increase (56-0). The Mountaineers tried to score but were stopped by a huge tackle by Anjali Pant before the ball went in the other direction. Late in the half, Johnson and Sheehy scored their first collegiate tries and, following two more Bitter conversions, Dartmouth was ahead, 70-0. Mount St. Mary's tried one more time to score but was stopped once again.
Dartmouth will next play in two weeks' time when it hosts Harvard on Oct. 23. The Big Green and the Crimson are the only two NIRA teams to remain undefeated this far into the season.
