HANOVER, N.H. — Senior
Harrison Markell of the Dartmouth men's ice hockey team has been selected as a candidate for the 2021-22 Senior CLASS Award, announced by the organization on Wednesday.
Â
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as a NCAA Division I senior or graduate student and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of candidates follows this release.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Markell, the team captain for the 2021-22 season, is instrumental to the Big Green defense, appearing in 67 games throughout his career while tallying three goals and nine assists.
In the classroom, Markell has excelled as he is a three-time selection for the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team. In addition, he was named a 2019-20 AHCA All-American Scholar.
Markell is the Director of the Caanan Club at Dartmouth, which consists of a group of roughly 25 student-athletes who visit Caanan Elementary School weekly to join the fourth graders in physical education class. They strive to create a positive environment and share their experiences in college and athletics with the students.
The 20 candidates will be narrowed to ten finalists later in the season. Those ten names will then be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character, and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2022 NCAA Men's Frozen Four® in April.
