Interim head coach Morgan Illikainen will conclude her term at the end of April
HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth Interim Director of Athletics and Recreation Peter Roby today announced that a national search for the next head coach of Big Green women's hockey will begin immediately. Current interim head coach Morgan Illikainen, a member of the Dartmouth Class of 2015, will conclude her term at the end of April.
Illikainen served as an assistant on the Big Green staff for two years, first under another interim head coach, Joe Marsh, in 2017-18. The following year she worked under Laura Schuler, who returned to the Dartmouth bench after coaching the Canadian Olympic Women's Hockey Team to a silver medal. Illikainen then returned to her alma mater in August as the interim coach in place of the departed Schuler.
She did not get an opportunity to coach the Big Green in an intercollegiate game, unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"I appreciate what Morgan has done to support our women's hockey athletes during a time of transition and unprecedented disruption this past year," Roby said. "She has represented Dartmouth College proudly throughout, and everyone associated with Dartmouth Women's Hockey and our athletics department owe her a debt of gratitude."
The Dartmouth women's hockey team has played in eight NCAA Tournaments, advancing to the Frozen Four on four occasions. The Big Green also have won eight Ivy League championships, three regular season ECAC championships and four ECAC Tournament titles in their 44-year history as a varsity program.
