HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth men's basketball head coach
David McLaughlin announced that former Big Green guard and volunteer assistant coach Jabari Trotter is returning to his staff as a full-time assistant coach, while Zack Curran joins the staff as the director of operations for the program. In addition, the director of operations during the pandemic,
Josh Einhorn, has been promoted to an assistant coaching position.
Trotter, a member of the Dartmouth Class of 2012, comes back to Hanover after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Hawaii. He oversaw the development of the wing players with the Rainbow Warriors while also focusing on rebounding and transition, helping the 'Bows finish third in the Big West in rebound margin in his first season. Trotter also coached All-Big West player Jack Purchase and was instrumental in the development of Samuta Avea from a reserve to the team's second-leading scorer in 2019-20.
Returning to his alma mater for the 2016-17 season as an assistant coach for the newly hired McLaughlin, Trotter spent two seasons on the staff with the Big Green. He was responsible for practice and game preparation, player development and scouting, and served as co-coordinator for recruiting.
Trotter graduated from Dartmouth in 2012 with a degree in sociology. A combo guard for the Green, he played in the second-most games in program history (112), starting 80 contests and averaging 6.9 points. He also is one of only 18 players to convert at least 100 3-pointers in a career (102). He then went on to play professionally overseas with the Dublin Thunder BC while coaching the KUBS U17 girls basketball team and the Lady Haroldites of the Ireland Division II Women's League.
Upon returning to the U.S., Trotter was hired at his post-graduate school, Phillips Exeter Academy, as an admissions office intern and assistant for the boys' basketball team. The year before he came back to Dartmouth, Trotter returned to the Division I ranks as the director of basketball operations for the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, which finished second in the Patriot League with a 13-5 conference record.
"I am very excited to welcome Jabari back to Hanover," McLaughlin said. "We could not be happier to have him rejoin our program for his third tour of duty at Dartmouth. It has been awesome to see him grow as a coach during his time at Hawaii. His contagious energy, positivity and ability to build lasting relationships will fit right in with the core values of our program. His playing experience and previous coaching tenure at Dartmouth will allow him to have an incredibly impactful transition."
Curran comes to the Big Green after two seasons as the director of basketball operations at George Mason, where he was responsible for all travel logistics and COVID safety protocols, managed all recruiting operations and coordinated program and player needs with every university department. He also assisted the staff with video scouting projects and skill development plans.
Before his time with the Patriots, Curran was the director of Hoop Group Elite Camps, a series of elite basketball camps considered a world leader in college exposure and skill instruction for high school athletes. As the director, he handled recruitment and logistics for the camps and tournaments.
A 2015 graduate of Virginia Tech with a bachelor's degree in economics, Curran helped the Hokies basketball program as a practice player and member of the scout team. He then took an assistant coaching job at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia, for the 2015-16 season.
"We are thrilled to have Zack join our Big Green program," McLaughlin said. "He is a very talented young coach that adds a great amount to our staff. His positive mindset, ability to understand the value of building strong relationships and belief in our program will allow him to have a great impact on every area of our program. I am excited to see him grow as a coach while at Dartmouth!"
Einhorn, a 2016 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, joined the Dartmouth men's basketball program as the director of operations during the pandemic in October of last year after spending two seasons as a graduate assistant at Boston College. Over the past nine months, he has handled numerous logistical issues for the Big Green and was instrumental in ensuring that the team could take advantage of any opportunity to practice within the restrictions enacted during the pandemic. Einhorn was promoted last month and is already flourishing in his new role as an assistant coach.
